South Section
The SOUTH section of the Whitsunday Islands offers as its hub the Mining boom town of Mackay. With its tropical flair the former sugar loading port has in recent time changed its structure to technical support centre and loading harbour for several of the mines west of its location. Several boat ramps, a marina and the pioneer river provide access to the southern islands of the Whitsunday Island Group from here.
Mackay is the cultural hub of the Whitsundays with theatres exhibitions and entertainment of all forms readily available.
